Unlocking Success: 5 Best Practices for Optimal Collaboration with Your Virtual Assistant (VA)

In today's fast-paced digital landscape, harnessing the power of a virtual assistant can be a game-changer for your productivity and efficiency. However, to truly optimize this collaboration, it's essential to implement best practices that foster effective communication, mutual respect, and shared goals. Here are five key practices to elevate your partnership with your virtual assistant.

1. Frequent Check-Ins

I encourage you to touch base with your virtual assistant at a minimum of once a week. This can be in the form of a method of communication that is most preferred by you, i.e. fixed weekly video meeting or a phone call. Even if there isn’t much to update its an opportunity the VA can use to clarify any tasks.

2. Clarify Boundaries - on Both Sides

Share your boundaries with your virtual assistant like times you would like to be contacted and how. Your preferred style of speaking from a business perspective when dealing with clients etc. Equally respect the boundaries of your VA, for example if they don’t like communication past a certain beware to respect that.

3. Make Mention of the Good and the Bad

Feedback is extremely valuable to VAs because it gives validation to the way things should be done. Show appreciation because it boosts morale. Equally if you don’t like something, highlight this so it can be corrected. Momentary feedback is the best.

4. Resolve Conflicts Constructively and Quickly

In case of disagreements or conflicts, address them promptly and constructively. It’s important to remember having a VA is like have an employee. Yes the expectations are higher, however the relationship still needs to be developed which takes time and care.

5. Share Your Goals, Vision, and Mission

As a VA I always have a deep desire to go and above and beyond for every single one of my clients but for me to fully align with their business needs I need to understand their goals, vision and mission. You can’t run with a vision unless you know where you are going with it.

By implementing these five key practices, you can unlock the full potential of your partnership with your virtual assistant. Foster clear communication, mutual respect, and shared goals to create a collaborative environment that drives success and mutual growth. Together, you can achieve remarkable results and propel your business forward in today's competitive landscape.
